SideQuest ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by SideQuest, Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the SideQuest mobile application (the "App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using SideQuest, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: When you sign up using Apple Sign In or Google Sign In, we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from the authentication provider.
- Profile Data: Information you provide during onboarding, including your interests, social energy preference (vibe), and display name.
- Location Data: With your explicit permission, we collect precise location data to find quests near you and verify quest completion via GPS. You can revoke location access at any time through your device settings.
- Photos: When you choose to verify quest completion with a photo, we store the image you capture. Photos are only uploaded when you explicitly submit them.
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App, including quests viewed, accepted, and completed, XP earned, streaks, and badges unlocked.
- Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, and app version for troubleshooting and improving the experience.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the SideQuest experience
- Find and display quests relevant to your location and interests
- Verify quest completion through photo and GPS verification
- Track your progress, XP, streaks, and achievements
- Enable social features such as friends, leaderboards, and activity feeds
- Improve and personalize your experience
- Communicate important updates about the App
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides:
- Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest
- Row Level Security (RLS) policies ensuring users can only access their own data
- OAuth-based authentication through Apple and Google (we never store your password)
- Secure cloud infrastructure hosted on AWS
While we implement industry-standard security measures, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
5. Third-Party Services
SideQuest integrates with the following third-party services:
- Supabase: Database, authentication, and file storage
- Apple Sign In: Authentication provider
- Google Sign In: Authentication provider
- Apple Maps: Map display and location services
- Expo: App development and update framework
Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle your data.
6. We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We do not share your data with advertisers. Your information is used solely to provide and improve the SideQuest experience.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data (such as quest completion statistics) may be retained for analytics purposes.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdrawal of Consent: Revoke location or photo permissions at any time through your device settings
- Data Export: Request an export of your data in a portable format

9. Children's Privacy
SideQuest is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. 10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. We will notify you of material changes through an in-app notification. Your continued use of SideQuest after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
